Momma's Visit

I know, I know, there are no pictures in this post. My mom and I are both of the mindset that taking too many pictures is annoying so we never think to take any. We just assume someone else will take the pictures! So when we're together, and it's just us, not many pictures are taken unless we really try.

If you haven't guessed already, my mom visited me this past weekend! And as everyone knows, mom hugs are the best hugs! She flew in on Thursday night (kept me up past my bed time) and flew out again on Monday morning. The other two times she has been to the SF bay area were to help me find an apartment back in June and to move me into my current apartment over Labor Day weekend. This time she said it was a vacation, that she was not going to be put to work.

On Friday she dropped me off at work and commandeered my car to go visit her old friend, Val, who had just moved to the area a couple weeks ago. They met while working at a furniture delivery company and since Val's husband moves a lot for work they hadn't seen each other in ten years! After they hung out for a little in the afternoon I was picked up from school work and we got dinner and watched some of the Olympic opening ceremony.

Saturday started out nice and lazy. We watched some tv shows we had both missed during the week and an episode of The Following because I didn't want to watch it alone. If you've ever watched it, you know how creepy it can be to watch alone/at night. I don't know if I'm going to be able to keep up with this season because it's just so gosh darned creepy.

In the afternoon we went to Livermore to do some wine tasting!! The winery I am a member of (Ehrenberg Cellars) was having a barrel tasting and futures party for their members so I was all about hitting that up. We got to try some of the wines that are still in the barrels and won't be bottled for another couple of years. They were very young and not quite developed but still tasted great to me! In fact, the winemaker himself told my mom that "we love Hanna here" and "she really knows her wines". I just know I like drinking them. And he knows he likes when I buy them. But he must really like me because we got to try some of the very first wine he made, back when he was making it in his garage. He had found a couple of bottles of it during the week and brought them to the tasting room to share with some of his favorite people, like me. We visited another two wineries on Saturday and Mom even got to sign a wine cork to be displayed on the bar at 3 Steves for all eternity. Quite the honor!

After the tastings we met up with Val and her family for dinner at a pizza place suggested by one of the three Steves of 3 Steves. I got to meet her family and two adorable daughters! The younger one who is 6 was so excited when she heard that I have a real tiara and was so adorably petrified when I put it on her head.

Sunday was supposed to be our big segway tour day but it rained and rained and rained and didn't stop for us to be able to get in our tour. As previously posted, I've done a segway tour in SF before but when my mom read about it she got jealous so I selflessly agreed to do it again. We did make it to Alcatraz in the afternoon which was something my mom definitely did want to do, the segway was more of a cool/awesome bonus. Alcatraz was still neat a second time around, but I think I can wait awhile before going again.

After Alcatraz we had the pleasure of power walking in SF in the rain because we both forgot the umbrella in the car, whoops. We went for dinner at a delish seafood place that I forget the name of. They get the fish fresh every day and often run out of things towards the end of the day, that's how you know its good. Mom had some Pacific Sole with bean stew thing and I had.....wait for it.....mac and cheese with lobster and bacon. Oh. My. Gosh. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

It's always wonderful to have my family visit but it was especially nice to have my mom for a weekend. Now to start the count down for friends and boyfriend visiting me then me going to visit my soon-to-be-born nephew in March!

oh yeah...so I got bored yesterday and rearranged my furniture. I am open to hobby suggestions.
